MOZART, GRIEG, FAURÉ, AND PROKOFIEV
CMS offers an evening of duos -- personal collaborations between pairs of artists -- with each work showcasing a distinct musical voice: Mozart’s refined two-movement violin sonata, a model of Classical elegance; Grieg’s only cello sonata; and Prokofiev’s original version of his Sonata in D minor for flute. The program also includes Fauré’s Violin Sonata No. 1, about which Saint-Saëns wrote, “With this work, Monsieur Fauré takes his place among the masters.”

ROSE STUDIO SERIES IV
This program takes the listener on a journey through chamber music history, highlighting the distinct voices of Boccherini, Koechlin (both featuring flutist Adam Walker), and Suk. The concert opens with Boccherini’s Quintet in D major, “Las Parejas”, a charming and elegant work that showcases the composer’s melodic finesse, followed by Koechlin’s Sonata for Flute and Piano, a lyrical and impressionistic gem from the early 20th century, rich with color and nuance. The concert culminates in the passionate and virtuosic textures of Suk’s Quintet in G minor.

FAURÉ’S PIANO QUINTET
In a program that highlights the remarkable diversity of chamber music, each work on the program offers a distinct character: the refined elegance of Mozart; the nuanced modernism of Menotti; Arensky’s Russian lyricism; and Fauré’s French romanticism. The evening concludes with Fauré’s Piano Quintet No. 1, a work celebrated for its lush melodies and emotional depth—qualities that led Aaron Copland himself to admire Fauré’s “great powers of melody-making.”
