In Gabrieli’s Day takes a fresh look at the wealth of Venetian music from the turn of the 17th century. Canzoni and madrigals by the masters Gabrieli, Marenzio, and Schütz are contrasted with works of lesser-known composers. Gabrieli’s Sonata XX – his 1615 masterpiece for 22 players divided into five choirs – concludes the program, with the ABQ assisted by brass players from the Juilliard School.
