Stepping in to replace André Watts, pianist Juho Pohjonen is set to open Minnesota Orchestra's 2019-2020 season with three performances of Grieg's Piano Concerto, September 19-21. Led by fellow Finn Osmo Vänskä, the occasion marks Pohjonen's debut with the orchestra.
Additional orchestral debuts this season include Grieg’s Piano Concerto with the New Jersey Symphony and Markus Stenz, Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Rochester Philharmonic and Fabien Gabel, and Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 5 with the Orchestre Symphonique de Quebec and Jean-Claude Picard.
“His playing is simply extraordinary. This was a night when a good view of the soloist’s hands was worth extra money. It was a performance worth recording of a work worth hearing.” –The Atlanta Journal Constitution
