It is with great pleasure that Kirshbaum Associates announces worldwide representation of pianist Juho Pohjonen.
"This very humble young man just dazzled with his
incredible talent and thoughtful interpretation."
— Daily Echo
"The programme included Grieg’s Piano Concerto, with a fast-rising Finnish star, Juho Pohjonen, as the delightfully unassuming but bewitching soloist."
— The Guardian
"Pearly touch, singing tone and sensitivity.... [Pohjonen] demonstrated his elegant musicianship throughout the program."
— The New York Times
An in demand soloist and chamber musician known for stunning artistry and distinctive interpretations, Juho Pohjonen has appeared with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Philharmonia Orchestra, National Arts Centre Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, and Helsinki Philharmonic. He has played recitals in New York (Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center), Washington, D.C. (Kennedy Center), San Francisco, Vancouver, Detroit, La Jolla, London (Wigmore Hall), Hamburg, St. Petersburg, Helsinki, Warsaw, Hong Kong, Antwerp, and has performed at the Lucerne Piano, Gilmore, Savonlinna, Bergen, and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festivals.
Following recent debuts with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Grant Park Music Festival and Vancouver Symphony, Pohjonen garnered rave reviews after making his third appearance with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra last month:
"Guest artist Juho Pohjonen, with his fingers seeming to barely touch the keys, then launched into a dizzying cadenza. He produced bubbly strings of sixteenth notes, ranging up and down the keyboard with an effortless technique... When Pohjonen finally stopped playing, it seemed like the perfect point for fulsome applause, but the initial movement of the concerto hadn’t even come to a close"
— Atlanta Journal Constitution
"Just as with his previous ASO appearance, Pohjonen’s performance was crisp and clear, unflappable, confident in execution."
— Arts ATL
"He coaxed a wonderfully clean and clear sound from the piano, which underscores the music’s structure. His playing was refined and controlled, without producing a large sound which was not required in this elegant and refined performance. The soloist and conductor were thoughtful in their choice of tempi in the second movement; they resisted the temptation to slow it down simply to heighten drama and melancholy. The finale was sharp and generated plenty of excitement."
— Bachtrack
Pohjonen rounds out the season with a performance of Esa-Pekka Salonen's Piano Concerto with the Szczecin Philharmonic and Rune Bergmann in Poland. He plays chamber music in France, Sweden, Finland, Israel, London's Wigmore Hall and at the Library of Congress in Washington DC.
This summer, he joins the Danish String Quartet at the Ravinia Festival and in Saratoga, NY, returns to the Santa Fe and Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festivals, Music@Menlo, La Jolla Summerfest and makes his Cleveland Orchestra debut with conductor Fabien Gabel.
